Water GEP (Graduate Employment Programme) is a presidential initiative and one of Africa’s biggest water and sanitation research programmes managed by the Water Research Commission (WRC).
Water GEP aims to place science or engineering degree graduates with host research institutions.
The programme was established to help unemployed graduates find suitable positions and to support ongoing research projects.
To connect graduates with their desired host institutions and vice versa, the WRC needed a system that could facilitate this connection.

The project was a pilot initiative by the WRC meant to monitor project progress.
The project’s goal was to digitise the recruitment process of the nation and provide opportunities to host institutions and unemployed graduates.
The Water GEP under WRC wanted a platform to connect graduates and host institutions with minimal effort and cost.
The platform was designed to simplify finding suitable projects and managing project contracts online.
Graduates could use the platform to report on project progress to their employer institutions periodically.

A Digital Recruitment Platform

Based on the requirements of the client, our team of analysts and technology consultants proposed an online recruitment system for the Water GEP.

Minimalist and user-friendly flow

Considering various recruitment processes and contract monitoring protocols, our analysts suggested a navigation flow to make the process streamlined, simple and user-friendly.

Digital data management

The graduates needed to upload many documents and certifications to their host institutions both before and after the hiring. We suggested a centralized data management system.

Based on the accepted invitations, the host can review the applicants and find the right candidate.

Graduates can upload various documents regarding their education and employment on the system.

* Invitation Review

Based on the invitations received, graduates can accept or reject the opportunities from various hosts.

* Employment status

Once the candidate is finalised, host institutions can assign different employment status to graduates.

* Periodic reporting

Based on their roles and responsibilities, graduates can upload workplans for their employers to review.

* Workplan review

The host institution can review the submitted workplans from the graduates and take suitable actions.
